Rural Locum Education Assistance Program(Rural LEAP)
What it doesRural LEAP provides financial assistance to urban General Practitioners (GPs) to train in emergency medicine and commit to a 4 week (or 20 working days) paid general practice locum placement in a rural location within a 2 year period.
Eligible doctors can receive a one-off financial incentive of up to $6000 to undertake emergency medicine training.
Rural LEAP is jointly administered by Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) on behalf of the Department of Health.
What it achieves
This program helps maintain continuity of emergency GP services and provides a skilled health workforce to regional and remote communities. It also helps to increase the professional skills of the GP workforce.
