Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS)
What it does
The Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) delivers structured distance education and supervision to doctors while they provide general medical services in rural and remote locations. Doctors in the scheme, like doctors on the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program, train towards fellowship of either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). RVTS doctors also provide general practice services in locations that may not be able to host registrars on the AGPT, due to the absence of supervisors.
What it achieves
The aim of the programme is to provide high-quality vocational training to doctors in rural and remote communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) throughout Australia and to support them to gain Fellowship of either the RACGP/ Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice and/or Fellowship of the ACRRM. The training provides an alternative route to vocational recognition for doctors in suitable locations.
