Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme
What it doesThe Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme (NAHSSS) supports nursing, midwifery and allied health students and professionals by providing scholarships for:
- undergraduate and postgraduate study
- clinical placements
- continuing professional development activities.
Additional funding was included in the 2014-15 Federal budget, supporting 500 additional NAHSSS Scholarships targeting rural and remote, primary care, aged care, mental health and Indigenous health services.
The allied health component of NAHSSS has a rural focus and is administered by Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH). Priority is also given to rural and remote nurses and midwives for some of the scholarships offered under the NAHSSS Nursing component. This component is administered by the Australian College of Nursing (ACN).
Assistance for people living in rural, remote and regional areas to study at an undergraduate or entry level.
Assistance for nursing and midwifery students to study at an undergraduate or entry level who have a demonstrated financial need and qualify under the rurality selection criteria.
Clinical Placement ScholarshipSARRAH
Assistance for allied health students to undertake a clinical placement, during their course of study, in rural and remote Australia.
Assistance for nurses and midwives to undertake a clinical placement within a hospital Emergency Department (ED).
Postgraduate (PG) ScholarshipSARRAH
Assistance for allied health professionals who provide a clinical service within Australia to enhance their skills and further develop their knowledge.
Assistance for nurses and midwives to undertake PG studies. Separate PG scholarship also available for PG ED, Nurse Re-entry, Nurse Practitioner (ED) and Midwifery Prescribing.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)ScholarshipSARRAH
Assistance for practicing allied health professionals to attend CPD activities such as short courses and conferences to enhance their professional practice.
Assistance for practicing nurses and midwives to attend CPD activities such as short courses and conferences. Separate CPD scholarships also available for ED nurses, midwives and non-clinical support staff.
Clinical Psychology ScholarshipSARRAH
Assistance for eligible applicants to gain a qualification recognised by the Australian Psychology Board as a clinical psychologist.
What it achievesThe NAHSSS aims to encourage the pursuit of a health career in geographic areas and professions of shortage.
