The National Strategic Framework for Rural and Remote Health

The National Strategic Framework for Rural and Remote Health promotes a national approach to policy, planning, design and delivery of health services in rural and remote communities.

The Framework has been prepared by the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council (AHMAC) Rural Health Standing Committee (RHSC). The RHSC includes representatives from the Commonwealth Department of Health and from each state and the Northern Territory health departments. The National Rural Health Alliance and a range of other rural health stakeholders also provided input to the document.

The Framework promotes a national approach to policy, planning, design and delivery of health services in rural and remote communities and is directed at decision and policy makers at the national, state and territory levels. It may also be used by communities and local health service providers to plan services and programs according to local needs. Overall it aims to improve health outcomes and return on investment for rural and remote Australians.
