Multidisciplinary Rural Training Network - Dental School Charles Sturt University
What it doesThis program helped establish Charles Sturt University’s (CSU) School of Dentistry and Health Sciences.
Total funding of $58.1 million (GST exempt) was provided over 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 to build teaching and clinical facilities and student accommodation across 5 campus sites - Orange, Wagga, Albury, Bathurst and Dubbo.
The first intake of dental students started their courses in 2009 at the Orange and Wagga sites.
What it achievesInvestment in local training and infrastructure is an important tool for building the region's dental workforce.
By attracting more local students to dentistry and oral health, encouraging city-based students to build careers and settle in the community, and expanding public patient services, this initiative can vastly improve access to dental services for people living in rural and regional areas.
